A very enthusiastic person who enjoys spending time with his wife Jess and their 3 boys, as well as catching up with friends and family, Richard has always had a passion for sport and exercise.
Richard started Personal Training over 10 years ago, as he had a desire to share his passion for exercise and the life skills he had learnt with others. Since starting as a Personal Trainer he has achieved many goals with his clients and has gone on to open ABSolute Health & Fitness with Rachel Van Gorp to share that passion.
With a focus on Athletics growing up, Richard competed in Decathlon (10 events in 2 days) and achieved a National Title in this event. He now enjoys and thrives off the challenge of endurance events. Some of his recent achievements include breaking the 5 hour mark in Wanaka Half Ironman (4th age group,13th overall), 2nd in Naseby 12hour Solo mountain bike race ( single speed). He has also competed in a range of different mountain bike, triathlon, adventure/multi and running races. He is always looking for new challenges and events to tick off, with a full Ironman and Speights Coast to Coast on the cards in the near future.
Both through experience and research, Richard has continued to learn techniques and develop new ideas to help his clients succeed in their goals, ranging from weight loss and increasing fitness levels, to completing their 1st half marathon, Coast to Coast, power lifting and increasing speed and power for their sports.
